Role Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Associate in the Protein & Cell Engineering group to play a key role in supporting our cell engineering pipelines. In this position, you will be part of a collaborative team involved in the generation and characterization of genetically modified primary immune cells. You will work with fellow scientists and cross-functional teams to advance Notch’s iPSC-derived T-cell therapy platform.

Notch is an early-stage biotech company, working to maximize the benefit of cell therapies through a proprietary T cell-production platform which combines sophisticated product design with commercial-compatible processes to enhance patient outcomes. Notch’s iPSC-based technology platform allows for precision control of notch signaling, which removes several critical limiting factors in the development of cell therapies, delivering the ability to design and manufacture a uniform and unlimited supply of therapeutic T cells.  

 

Key responsibilities:

Support cell engineering pipelines to generate genetically modified cell lines

  • Carry out primary human immune cell isolation and mammalian cell culture
  • Molecular cloning of DNA vectors for non-viral gene editing and lentiviral vectors
  • Lentivirus production and transduction of cells

 

Support the characterization of genetically modified cells

  • Carry out molecular biology techniques, including PCR and ddPCR, to evaluate outcomes of gene editing experiments
  • Perform immunological assays including multi-color flow cytometry, MSD, and co-culture experiments
  • Troubleshoot and optimize protocols for characterization of gene-edited cell lines
  • Apply knowledge of T-cell biology and immunology as needed

 

Maintain project timelines and report progress regularly to the project team

  • Maintain excellent records of experiments in lab notebooks
  • Drive results in multiple projects through effective planning and organization of work

 

Other responsibilities as required

  • Present data at group and company meetings and externally as required
  • Support lab operations and equipment purchasing/vendor selection

 

Role Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, bioengineering, cell biology, immunology or a closely related discipline with 6+ years of postgraduate work experience in a biotech or industry position or master’s degree with 3+ years of experience in a biotech/pharma setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with primary human immune cells, including T-cells
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture
  • Proficient in running instruments enabling characterization of cell lines such flow cytometers, MSD, Incucyte
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques including cloning, PCR, and ddPCR
  • Experience with DNA vector design would be a strong advantage
  • Experience with CRISPR gene editing systems would be a strong advantage
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, plan, and execute next steps based on experimental results in a fast-paced research environment.

Salary Range: $87,000 - $112,000
